AOK PLUS will remain the University of Erfurt’s healthcare partner for a further two years

AOK PLUS will remain the University of Erfurt’s healthcare partner for the next two years. The health insurance provider has been supporting the establishment and expansion of the University Health Management (UGM) programme since 2020. The project partners have now agreed to extend the contract.

Agreement signed: AOK PLUS will remain the University of Erfurt’s healthcare partner for a further two years.

"AOK PLUS not only provides financial support to the University of Erfurt, but also advises us on all matters relating to health and prevention," says Jens Panse, project manager for University Health Management. “Together, we have been able to achieve a great deal over the past few years and have steadily expanded the University Health Management programme. For example, alongside our health weeks, we have been able to organise cycling events, our campus run, the ‘Active Break’ and various workshops and talks on student health, as well as offering flu vaccinations, back care classes and yoga courses.” There has also been a wide range of mental health services on offer – from mindfulness courses to the helpline for students, which was launched as part of the project with AOK PLUS and has since been further expanded. And the University of Erfurt is also proud of this: in 2025, it was awarded the ‘Thuringian Seal for Healthy Work’ in recognition of its health promotion efforts.

With numerous initiatives and measures as part of the University Health Management programme, the campus will once again be placing a strong emphasis on health in 2026. For example, the 10th Erfurt Campus Run took place in June, at which the University of Erfurt once again welcomed numerous runners and running teams. In addition, the ‘Campus-Impulse’ series of lectures and workshops has begun, and a large-scale health survey of students and staff was also carried out during the summer term of 2026. A health screening day will take place in October, and in November the university will once again take part in the Thuringia-wide Mental Health Days.

The main focus over the next two years of the partnership will be on strengthening the structural foundations of the networks with the local authority, the state and within the university consortium. In addition, existing services are to be consolidated and – based on the findings of the health survey – new ones created. This includes, amongst other things, the establishment of a professionalised, systemic initial counselling service. Last but not least, a mission statement on healthy leadership is to be implemented at the university.

Jens Panse: “We are delighted to be able to offer all this to the staff and students at the University of Erfurt and look forward to further initiatives over the next two years.” And Franziska Plock, head of the local AOK PLUS regional centre, adds: “We want to help people enjoy more healthy years. That is why we are delighted to support the University of Erfurt on its journey towards becoming a ‘healthy university’, and we welcome the commitment of everyone involved – particularly the students – to this cause. Health is not just a lifestyle issue; it is essential for our society and for a good quality of life.”
