Book presentations on contemporary history with Michael Wildt and Andrew Port

The Centre for Transcultural Studies / Gotha Perthes Collection at the University of Erfurt invites you to two book presentations during the summer semester.

Professor Michael Wildt (Berlin) will present his 2022 German Historian Award-winning book "Zerborstene Zeit. Deutsche Geschichte 1918 bis 1945", in which he provides a dense description of postwar political history based on self-testimonies. The event will take place on May 16, 2023 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of the Myconius School in Gotha and is a cooperation of the Gotha Research Centre with the state center for political education and the Ernestinum School Gotha.

Professor Andrew Port (Detroit) will present his study "Never Again. Germans and Genocide after the Holocaust" on memory, politics and the ongoing construction of public norms. In it, Port looks at German responses to genocide in other parts of the world after 1945, such as Bosnia and Rwanda. The event, co-hosted with the University of Erfurt's DFG-funded research group "Voluntariness", will take place at 6 p.m. June 20, 2023, at the Centre for Transcultural Studies in the "Pagenhaus" at Friedenstein Castle.
