The Brandt School’s academic cooperation and exchange program with the Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Colombia, is off to a great start: On Friday, April 16, the Director of the Brandt School, Prof. Achim Kemmerling, took part in a "Conversatorio" about "The Universal Basic Income: Global Tendencies and Perspectives" with Juan Carlos Guerrero, Postgraduate Director at Rosario`s Faculty of International, Political and Urban Studies. After welcome words from the Faculty’s Dean Julio Londoño, and a short presentation of the main elements of the cooperation program by Ana María Franco from Rosarío's International Office, Kemmerling and Guerrero engaged in a lively virtual discussion on the Universal Basic Income in front of students from the Rosario and the Brandt School. The main conclusion of this discussion was that the current crisis can be a chance to muster enough political support for cash transfers to poor people which have less and less conditions, even in countries like Colombia. The Brandt School is thrilled to see this cooperation come to live in spite of the pandemic.
