The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World include the Pyramids of Egypt, the Hanging Gardens and the Walls of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus of Olympia, the Temple of Artemis of Ephesus, the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, and the Colossus of Helios of Rhodes; later, other buildings and works of art were added, such as the Lighthouse (Pharos) of Alexandria. Most of these legendary buildings and works of art had already been destroyed by the end of antiquity. Therefore, they still exist today, mainly in the imagination. Kai Brodersen, Professor of Ancient Culture at the University of Erfurt, has collected the ancient certificates for that world and its wonders and has developed the list of the wonders of the world and their significance.

No less than two of the wonders of the world – the Temple of Artemis and the Mausoleum – were located in what is now Turkey. Now the publishing house Runik Kitap in Istanbul has presented Brodersen's book in a Turkish translation and thus made it accessible to a new readership.
