Digital Vernissage: "At Second Glance — 1 City 1000 Stories"

Are Erfurt's construction sites a curse or a blessing? What are pink moments in Rieth or how many Fynn Kliemanns are there in Erfurt? Students at the University of Erfurt asked themselves these and other questions as part of the photojournalistic practical seminar "At second glance — 1 city 1000 stories" in the winter semester 2020/21. Under the direction of Erfurt photographer Paul-Ruben Mundthal, various multimedia documentaries were created, which will be presented in a digital show on Friday, 5 March. The event begins at 6.30 pm, with words of welcome from Prof. Dr. Kai-Uwe Schierz (Director of the Erfurt Art Museums) and Dr. Markus Seifert (University of Erfurt).

The projects are not only concerned with the content of the exceptional situation caused by the pandemic. They are themselves shown exclusively in the virtual exhibition space due to the pandemic. The students explored the versatile possibilities of a multimedia presentation and developed very different approaches: in addition to the photographs, videos, (audio) interviews, maps and reports on experiences provide a more in-depth viewing experience.

The projects:

Culture emergency booth: What does it look like if a Covid 19 pandemic paralyses cultural life in Erfurt? Insights behind the scenes of cultural and leisure facilities reveal a crushing emptiness and highlight concerns and fears. (Katharina Möbius & Valentina Gunkel)

Being there for each other: When the Corona virus came, people kept their distance and their smiles disappeared behind a mask. But this does not mean that people cannot convey closeness and care. A project about helping in Corona times. (Julia Flügge & Alexandra Seidler)

Rosa Rieth: Life in Rieth is not always rosy. However, like in any other living space, there are rosa moments and perspectives that make life there worth living. (Rebekka Roick & Luisa Schindel)

Curse or blessing? Construction sites as a constant change in the city of Erfurt. For many people, construction sites are a nuisance. But the result offers added value for the population. (Alma Melzer)

Who belongs to Erfurt's self-made and DIY culture? Where can these creative people be found? A virtual bike tour through Erfurt to get to know some of these places. (Pauline Hille)

Empty squares - empty pockets: They have almost disappeared from Erfurt's streetscape due to the pandemic and yet their situation is precarious: homeless people are living in an extreme situation right now. (Johanna Siekmann)
