Dr. Kevin Tiede takes over as Scientific Managing Director of the Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour

The Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour (IPB) has a new scientific managing director: Dr. Kevin Tiede is taking over the scientific management of the institute with immediate effect.

Dr. Kevin Tiede is a psychologist and conducts research at the interface of decision research, risk and climate communication. After completing his doctorate at the University of Konstanz, Kevin Tiede worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development. Since 2024, Kevin Tiede has been a member of the IPB and a research associate at the Professorship for Health Communication in the Department of Media and Communication Studies.

Climate change and its consequences for planetary health pose complex decisions for people, politics, and society. Together with my colleagues at the IPB, I would like to contribute to a better understanding of how people make such decisions and how information - for example, on scientific findings or solutions for climate protection - can be communicated in such a way that it supports informed and socially sustainable decisions."

says Kevin Tiede with a view to his new role. Kevin Tiede is particularly looking forward to combining research, promoting young researchers, and transferring scientific findings to society. IPB Director Prof. Dr. Cornelia Betsch emphasises: "With Kevin Tiede, the Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour is gaining a proven expert in decision and risk research. Kevin Tiede's interdisciplinary perspective will significantly strengthen the strategic development of our profile."

Dr. Kevin Tiede succeeds Dr. Mirjam Jenny, who took up the position of managing director at Die Junge Akademie in Berlin on March 1, 2026. The Board of Directors would like to sincerely thank Mirjam Jenny for her extraordinary commitment and significant contributions to establishing the IPB and developing the Science2Society division. "Mirjam Jenny has made a decisive contribution to strategically positioning the institute and strengthening the transfer of scientific knowledge to society and politics. We are very grateful for this and look forward to further overlaps between our areas of activity," says Betsch.
