Erfurt Cloister Talks 2026: "weniger: mehr wert"

At a time when the decades-long promise of incessant growth is reaching its limits, the Erfurt Cloister Talks 2026 are deliberately setting a counterpoint. Under the title "weniger: mehr wert" (less: more worth), the series of events organised by the Faculty of Catholic Theology and the Catholic Forum in Thuringia invites us to re-evaluate sacrifice not as a mere loss, but as a gain in quality of life and social coexistence.

On three evenings in April and May, prominent guests will discuss what we can gain by doing without:

  • Monday, 20 April, 19:30: "Less plunder, more...?" Philosopher and theologian Professor Dr Jean-Pierre Wils discusses the ecological and ethical limits of consumption.
  • Wednesday, 29 April, 19:30: "Less contempt, more...?" Writer and essayist Anne Rabe talks about social cohesion beyond devaluation.
  • Wednesday, 6 May, 7:30 pm: "Less outrage, more...?" Communication scientist Professor Dr Hanna Klimpe analyses the current culture of debate.

The events take place in the cloister of Erfurt Cathedral (Domstr. 10). After the lectures and discussions, all visitors are cordially invited to deepen the conversations over drinks and pastries. Admission is free, but a donation is requested.
