In memoriam Dr Friedrich Bauersachs

On 12 August 2025, Dr Friedrich Bauersachs passed away. Together with his wife Herta Bauersachs, he had provided financial support for Professor Carsten Herrmann-Pillath's work at the Max-Weber-Kolleg for many years. Important results of this support were the book ‘A New Principles of Economics: The Science of Markets’ and the ongoing financing of the journal ‘Cultural Science: A Multi-disciplinary Journal for the Study of More-Than-Human Culture,’ which is based at the Max-Weber-Kolleg. An agricultural economist by training, Dr Friedrich Bauersachs was involved for decades in international projects of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in China and Eastern Europe, where he advocated an ideology-free, non-doctrinal and research-based approach to supporting market economy transformations. He is remembered in all countries as a valued and cosmopolitan discussion partner. We mourn his painful loss.
