Kevin Tiede speaks at the Freiburg Environmental Talks

How can good communication help to promote social acceptance for effective climate protection measures? This question was the focus of the presentation by Dr. Kevin Tiede, researcher at the Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour (IPB), at the Freiburg Environmental Talks on November 5, 2025.

Under the title "Climate communication - who needs that?" at the Jazzhaus Freiburg, experts discussed how environmental and climate issues can be communicated in a way that leads to understanding and collective action rather than polarisation.

In his presentation, Kevin Tiede emphasised that good climate communication is crucial to gaining approval for effective climate projects. Particularly in the case of political measures - such as new regulations on heating systems - there is often a lack of understanding of what benefits they have and how fairly the costs are distributed. According to Tiede, objective and transparent information could make a significant contribution to citizens better understanding and supporting decisions.

Environmental Mayor Christine Buchheit gave the welcome address at the event, which was moderated by Michael Adler from the agency Tippingpoints. The Freiburg Environmental Talks are organised regularly in order to make complex environmental issues understandable and to bring citizens and students together.
