Shaping Transformation Together: Book Launch at the Federal Chancellery

Director Cornelia Betsch joined other experts in discussing pathways toward a strategic and democratic transformation policy.

On April 8, 2025, the presentation of the book “Between Imposition and Confidence – Transformation as a Societal Project” took place at the Federal Chancellery in Berlin. Cornelia Betsch  and Mirjam Jenny contributed a chapter to the anthology. In their text, “How Can We Escape the Individualization Trap and Move Toward Collective Action?”, they advocate for behaviorally-informed strategies to strengthen collective action in the context of socio-ecological transformation.

In addition to the book’s authors, around 100 representatives from the social, human, and behavioral sciences, federal ministries, and civil society were invited to the event. After introductory remarks by Wolfgang Schmidt, Head of the Federal Chancellery, a panel discussion titled “How Can Strategic and Democratic Transformation Policy Be Successfully Implemented in Practice?” followed. Interdisciplinary guests included Berthold Vogel (SOFI Göttingen), Ralf Lindner (Fraunhofer ISI), Andrea Roemmele (Hertie School), and Cornelia Betsch (IPB, University of Erfurt).

The event marked the conclusion of an initial scientific conference held in December 2023, the results of which have now been published in the presented anthology.

The book is now available for download or order through the Publikationsportal of the Federal Government.
