In memory of Johannes Weiß

The members of the Max-Weber-Kolleg bid farewell to Prof Dr Johannes Weiß, a sociologist and leading expert on Max Weber, who passed away on 24 September 2025. In 2011 and 2012, he served as a fellow at the Max-Weber-Kolleg and worked, amongst other things, on the publication of Max Weber’s writings on interpretive sociology and value-free judgement as part of the Max Weber collected works.

Even after his active time at the Kolleg, he continued to champion the support of early-career researchers through his active membership of the Alumni Association of the Max-Weber-Kolleg. “We will cherish his memory with gratitude,” said Hartmut Rosa, Director of the Max-Weber-Kolleg.
