Welt Was Los?

The Student Government of the Willy Brandt School launched it’s first episode of “WELT WAS LOS? (World, how are you doing?) on Nov 30, 2022. In the discussion program, four of the second-year WBS students shared findings from their policy briefs which was a part of the first semester exam.

Anushree Dirangane discussed how the age of consent as specified in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 in India is an area of policy concern. It creates a burden on special court reducing access to justice. It also contributes to making health care services inaccessible and reinforces gender & caste oppression in the guise of protection.

Eddy Vaughan presented on the lack of statewide regulations in Indiana, USA and provided policy recommendations to transition from a highly carbon dependent state to a neutral one.

Noor Alam explored the health emergency in Punjab, Pakistan which continues to severely impact the health and economic lives of citizens due to the government's lack of political will that manifests in weak financial and administrative capacities to mitigate these effects

Guilherme Deganello advocated for self-care policies in Brazil which focuses on prevention and the role of people in managing their own health.

The discussion program was moderated by Ani Tovmasyan and hosted various students from University of Erfurt as participants. The Student Government plans to host “Welt Was Los?” once every semester.
