Some funding programmes offered by external funding bodies require the applicant institution to provide a financial contribution in the form of institutional matching funds. The University of Erfurt's Matching Fund supports large-scale research projects and collaborative initiatives where institutional co-funding is required or advisable and where other internal university funding schemes are not applicable. As a rule, support from the Matching Fund is linked to the successful acquisition of programme overhead funding (indirect cost recovery).
Funding Line A of the Matching Fund provides co-financing for large-scale projects or collaborative initiatives that have already been approved for external funding. If approved, the matching funds are incorporated into the project budget during the proposal stage for the entire duration of the project and are released once external funding has been awarded.
Funding Line B ("Seed Funding") enables professors to obtain a temporary reduction in their teaching obligations in order to prepare applications for major research projects or collaborative funding proposals.
Funding decisions are made by the University's Executive Board based on a formal application. Applications must be coordinated in advance with the Executive Office of the President. For further information or to apply to the Matching Fund, please contact the Head of the Executive Office of the President, Dr Katharina Klinger.
