Climate protection and democracy: In conversation with Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider and Professor Cornelia Betsch

How can effective climate protection be achieved in a democratic society? Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider and communications researcher Professor Dr Cornelia Betsch will talk about this on 18 May in the House of the Weimar Republic. The talk is held in German.

Climate protection is one of the greatest political and social challenges of our time. While scientists and environmental movements urgently warn of the consequences of the climate crisis and call for decisive action, measures for more climate protection are often met with scepticism and resistance from parts of the population. How can climate protection be implemented effectively without jeopardising democratic processes and social cohesion?

Federal Environment Minister Carsten Schneider and Professor Dr Cornelia Betsch will address these questions at a public discussion event in the Haus der Weimarer Republik – Forum für Demokratie, a project of Weimarer Republik e.V. Together they will discuss how democracy and climate protection are compatible, which communication strategies can create trust and which political paths appear suitable for winning social majorities for necessary changes.

The event is in German and will be moderated by freelance journalist Sebastian Haak.
