About the event
The Erfurt Conference of the German-Polish Society for Philosophy on the topic 'Lies, Deception and Fake News: On Forms of Insincerity' will be dedicated to questions of moral philosophy, political philosophy and philosophy of language as well as the history of philosophy. How do we find the right definitions and distinctions for forms of dishonesty? Can lies be true? Can all Cretans always lie? Are bald-faced lies lies? How does linguistic misdirection work? Is bullshitting necessarily indifferent to facts? Is the Kantian conception of the lie tenable? Is Hegel's criticism of it justified? How should dishonesty be judged morally? Is there a duty to lie? When is dishonesty politically justified? How do irrational counter-narratives (big lies) threaten an open, democratic society? How should we respond to the social and political consequences of mass propaganda lies?
