Under the title “Ways out of loneliness”, the Professorship for Inclusive Educational Processes for People with Cognitive and Complex Disabilities at the University of Erfurt, in collaboration with “Erfurt inklusiv!”, the City of Erfurt’s Inclusion Management Department, to a symposium on 30 October 2026 from 10 am to 4 pm. The event, which will take place at the “Amelie Nebenan” café (Europaplatz 10, Erfurt), will focus on the experiences of loneliness among people with disabilities – particularly those with cognitive disabilities. The aim of the day is to bring together researchers, practitioners and the wider community to identify practical ways of tackling loneliness at a local level.

Following two expert presentations, the event will feature four parallel workshops in which participants will explore the topic in greater depth. The findings will be presented in the afternoon, before a panel discussion featuring Jonas Schmeißner-Darkow (employee, Staff Unit for Research and Clinical Projects, Rickling Psychiatric Hospital), Professor Erik Weber (holder of the Professorship for Inclusive Educational Processes for Cognitive and Complex Disabilities at the University of Erfurt), Theresa Kroemer (cultural guide at Erfurt City Council), a representative of the AGATHE initiative, and co-researchers from the EileBe Project I. Anyone interested from the wider community, the university, the voluntary sector, and services and organisations supporting people with disabilities is warmly invited to this symposium.
