The course catalogue is extremely diverse: If you want to become a teacher at primary schools, secondary schools or special needs schools, this is the place for you. But Erfurt's communication studies are also known far beyond the borders of the Free State – whether through the Master's in Health Communication, Global Communication or Children's and Youth Media Studies. Would you like to study in the rooms where Martin Luther once studied the liberal arts? The Faculty of Catholic Theology, based in the cathedral, is the only one of its kind in the eastern German states. Students here breathe history and at the same time explore modern questions of theology and society. Political science in Erfurt is also something special: the focus here is on linking different disciplines (Economics, Law and Social Sciences, and a Social Science concentration). The interdisciplinary nature of the programme, i.e. the “interlocking” of the disciplines, provides an excellent foundation for later specialisation.
For those who want to look beyond the boundaries of their own subject, the "Studium Fundamentale" programme offers new perspectives: This component of the Bachelor's programme enables students to acquire a wide range of methodological knowledge and key skills in interdisciplinary courses and to gain career-oriented practical experience. In addition, a mentoring system guarantees personal support for students from the first semester onwards by a professor. Another exciting aspect of the Bachelor's programme in Erfurt is the “two-subject Bachelor's degree”. This means that the programme consists of two subjects, namely a major and a minor. This gives graduates a broad foundation for their subsequent career path.
For all those who are still looking for guidance in the “study jungle”, the university has developed the online tool STUDIMAT for choosing a Bachelor's programme (in German only). Not only can you use it to find suitable combinations for your major and minor subjects, STUDIMAT also provides all the important information about your chosen programme as well as testimonials from current students and former students, alumni.
And if you'd rather see for yourself, just come to our Open Day on 9 May or the Discovery Days from 22 to 26 June.
