9th Erfurt Campus Run: A great run!

Once again this year, numerous runners laced up their running shoes to take part in the 9th Erfurt Campus Run. More than 133 individual runners and 33 teams took on the ten-kilometre course at the University of Erfurt in midsummer temperatures.

The Bambini started with a 400-metre lap before the team run began at 5 p.m. – as always with a witty commentary by Jens Panse, who was responsible for organising the event together with his team from USV Erfurt and the University Health Management.

In the team run, the "Heiße Fritten" team from LTV Erfurt came out on top with a time of 30:03 minutes – ahead of the Opa Karli Memory relay team from USV Erfurt (31:02) and the "Bluthochdruck" team from the Health Medical University (31:20). The five all-women relay teams were won by Uni-Team Gesundheit, which finished in 38:56 minutes, ahead of the "Erfurt Oaks" (40:10) and the "Schnecken" (41:57).

In the individual race, which was also counted as the Thuringian University Championships, Johannes Walter from LTV Erfurt was the first man to cross the finish line after 34:14 minutes, followed by Adrian Panse from USV Erfurt (34:47) and Julius Grimm (38:42), who started for the Health Medical University Erfurt, in third place. The women's winner was Jana Millat from LTV Erfurt with a time of 40:44 minutes on the ten-kilometre course. Marie Brückner from USV Erfurt followed in second place (44:25) and Lauren Walker from Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in third place, finishing in 44:49 minutes. The university champion titles this year went to Jana Millat (University of Erfurt) and Adrian Panse (EAH Jena). 66 students from Thuringia's universities were ranked, with the highest number of participants from HMU (27) and the University of Erfurt (26).

The 9th Erfurt Campus Run was once again supported by the Studierendenwerk and AOK PLUS as the University of Erfurt's health partner. "Health and the joy of sport should, of course, be the main focus in any battle for victory," says Jens Panse. He is delighted that interest has increased once again this year. "Including the youngest starters in the Bambini run, there were more than 300 participants in total – that's a new record for the campus run. And what I'm most pleased about is that, unlike the traditional fun runs, we have so many young, student participants - both among the runners and the spectators along the route. That and the really good atmosphere characterise our Erfurt campus run."

Incidentally, there was another novelty this year: the University of Erfurt hosted the 1st Erfurt Campus Cup, to which the Erfurt universities invited all members to the university campus on Wednesday, 25 June, parallel to the campus run, and which was supported by the Municipal University and Student Advisory Board. Sports enthusiasts were able to compete in beach volleyball and 3x3 basketball. On the large campus meadow, there were also small-sided football, rugby and tee-ball activities as well as a bouncy castle for the little athletes. The Student Council and the university sports club as organisers were very satisfied with the "small premiere". Next year, the Campus Cup is to be expanded further and then become a regular sporting event in the university city of Erfurt.

By the way...

If you would like to start training for next year's run (again), you can already make a note of 24 June. That's when the Erfurt campus run will enter its 10th round.
