DFN Cloud becomes "Uni Erfurt Cloud"

The University Computer and Media Center (URMZ) is pleased to announce the launch of the "Uni Erfurt Cloud" service at the University of Erfurt on Monday, 10 November. It replaces the previously provided DFN Cloud and offers a number of enhancements compared to the previous cloud storage service approach.

Like the DFN Cloud, the “Uni Erfurt Cloud” is based on Nextcloud and is provided for the University of Erfurt as a service of the IT Centre of Thuringian Universities in Ilmenau. With its introduction, the previous DFN Cloud service will be discontinued at the end of this year. All users are therefore requested to transfer their data to the ‘Uni Erfurt Cloud’. The URMZ has created instructions for this purpose.

Employees (including assistants) do not need to submit a separate application to use the “Uni Erfurt Cloud”. Other users can be authorised upon request. All you need to do is send an email to the URMZ. The extension of the service to students is planned for the summer semester of 2026. Requests from students will therefore only be approved in justified exceptional cases.
