Information from the organisers

When Hans-Ulrich Wehler rejected psychoanalysis at the end of the 1970s, conceding that it was only of limited use for biographies, the case seemed to be closed early on. However, further developments towards a history of experience on the one hand and the increasing opening of psychoanalysis to the historical contexts of mental disorders on the other have led to productive cooperation over the years. The lecture will shed light on the history of this rapprochement, report on specific interdisciplinary projects, reflect on the potential, but also point out the limits of mutual exchange and co-operation.
