Hoping for the International Emmy Award

Fingers crossed: The KiKA production "Triff Anne Frank" ('Meet Anne Frank' // KiKA/hr), in which Professor Jörg Rüpke from the Max-Weber-Kolleg at the University of Erfurt was involved, has been nominated for the International Emmy Awards by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

"Triff Anne Frank" is the only German production in the running for an International Emmy in the Kids categories. The episode of the KiKA history format is thus one of only four German nominations. The coveted awards will be presented on 20 November 2023 in New York.

Through the world-famous diary of Anne Frank, many schoolchildren learn about the National Socialist reign of terror and the Holocaust for the first time; almost 90 German schools bear her name. The time-travelling celebrity reporter Clarissa Corréa da Silva learns about the oppressive life in the backhouse hideout in Amsterdam. And she meets Anne Frank, a girl with many rough edges and a dream: to become a writer. "Triff Anne Frank" is also available as an educational film for the classroom (Matthias-Film).

Volker Schmidt-Sondermann is responsible for the production's production direction, Tanja Nadig (hr) and Anne Reichenbach (KiKA) for the editing. The book was written by Matthias Huff and Tina Wilß (KiKA). The episode was created in close cooperation with Professor Sascha Feuchert from the Holocaust Literature Unit at JLU Gießen, who wrote the non-fiction texts for the script and the teaching materials for the educational film, and Professor Jörg Rüpke (University of Erfurt) is the expert advisor for the series.

KiKA programme director Dr Astrid Plenk explains in a press release: "Idea, book, acting, scientific support and teaching material – making the significant story of Anne Frank accessible to a young target group, establishing a connection to the present and thus creating impulses for reflection and discussion has been a great challenge, which all those involved have dedicated themselves to with passion."
