Offer "Office365 ProPlus on personal devices" to be discontinued as of 30 September

The University Computer and Media Centre (URMZ) has announced that a further step in the changeover of Microsoft licences at the University of Erfurt will take place shortly.

As already announced in November 2022, there will be changes in the current use of Office on private devices. This week, the University Computer and Media Centre (URMZ) will write to all users of the "Office365 ProPlus on private devices" service to inform them of the changeover to the new Microsoft 365 service.

Background: The University of Erfurt is gradually taking further steps as part of the changeover of Microsoft licences, which has become necessary due to the new usage agreement between the Thuringian universities and Microsoft that has been in force since May 2021: All employees will be provided with a personal licence on a daily basis, which will be required in future for the use of the Microsoft products already available at the University of Erfurt (Windows, Office products such as Word, Excel). The additional use of Office 365 on private devices offered in the old licence model is being phased out and will be merged into one usage model under the term Microsoft365. Microsoft products, especially Office (Microsoft 365 Apps for Enterprise), can be used on up to five devices per user. These can be devices at the workplace or private devices. However, use is limited to business purposes. Since October 2022, students have had the opportunity to register for the use of Microsoft 365 free of charge (see news from October 2022).

Please therefore note the information from our news of 28 November: The previous offer "Office365 ProPlus on private devices" will be discontinued on 30 September. The University Computer and Media Centre (URMZ) would like to ask you to back up your data before then, especially from OneDrive, because this backup will not be done automatically when you switch to the new service.

The University Computer and Media Center (URMZ) has compiled the most important questions and answers in a corresponding FAQ section on its service website for backing up data and for any problems that may arise when switching to Microsoft365, and draws particular attention to the first two points, conversion of the framework agreement/licensing.
