Project UncertainTEAM presented at the BMFTR

How can scientific uncertainty be communicated in an understandable and responsible way? The UncertainTEAM project is investigating precisely this question - after initial studies with journalists, the involvement of citizens in Thuringia is now following.

On September 3 and 4, 2025 Finja Isabel Augsburg and Fabian Prochazka presented the UncertainTEAM project at a status conference at the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) in Berlin.

The project addresses the question of how science journalism and science communication can best deal with scientific uncertainty. The project is in its second year. A large representative survey, as well as guideline interviews and workshops with journalists, have already been completed. Project manager Fabian Prochazka on the next steps:

Next up are participatory workshops with Thuringian citizens to develop new ways of presenting scientific uncertainty, which we will then test for their effectiveness in experimental studies.
