Workshop: "Grenzen setzen, Freiräume schaffen"

The online workshop “Grenzen setzen, Freiräume schaffen" (Setting Boundaries, Creating Space), organised by the University of Erfurt as part of its Academic Skills Training on Tuesday 6 October from 9 am to 3.30 pm, focuses on striking a balance between academic work and care responsibilities. This practice-oriented event is aimed at doctoral candidates and postdoctoral researchers and is designed to support them in actively shaping the interplay between academic career development and family commitments. The speaker is Dr Matthias Zach. Registration is open until 20 September.

Topics include:

  • understanding how institutional requirements and cultures shape the balance between work and family life;
  • dealing with discipline-specific challenges (e.g. fieldwork, laboratory work, flexible working hours);
  • reflecting on one’s own values, needs, expectations and priorities;
  • communicating effectively with partners and other family members;
  • identifying personal skills that support a long-term work-life balance; and
  • learning from the experiences and strategies of colleagues and role models.

In addition, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions.

The event is organised in collaboration with the Office for Equal Opportunity and Family Services.
