New from 2026: Construction Engineering degree programme

The University of Erfurt is offering a new bachelor's programme in Civil Engineering in cooperation with the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt from the winter semester 2026/27.

Course content of the Construction Engineering degree programme

The main objective of the Construction Engineering major is essentially to provide, through practice-oriented teaching, a broad-based education based on scientific knowledge and methods in the essential areas of construction engineering.

In the relevant modules, this should also enable students to recognise the effects of construction technology on the environment and to avoid negative consequences as far as possible. The modules that serve this purpose are offered by the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt.

A Studium Fundamentale integrated into the major also enables students to deepen their general social and personal skills, in particular judgement, communication skills, social skills including intercultural skills, and aesthetic skills. These skills are intended in particular to enable students to tackle social challenges and are developed on the basis of such issues.

Extract from the modules of the Construction Engineering degree programme
  • Mathematics
  • Building materials science
  • Building mechanics
  • Building construction and building regulations
  • Geotechnics
  • Occupational safety
  • Solid construction, steel construction, timber construction
  • Construction operations/ production engineering

Career prospects: Teaching profession and much more...

In addition to the career prospects of a teaching profession at vocational schools, a degree in Construction Engineering opens up the following professional fields of activity:

  • in the construction industry,
  • in the building trade,
  • in independent engineering offices,
  • in construction departments of industrial and commercial enterprises and
  • in technical administrations in the public sector.

Please note, however, that this qualification does not lead to authorisation to submit building plans.

Two-subject Bachelor's programme: major and minor subject

At the University of Erfurt, you always combine two subjects in the Bachelor's degree programme: a major subject and a minor subject (two-subject Bachelor's degree).

The Fundamental Studies programme is integrated into the major subject. Additional, possibly non-subject-specific courses enable you to apply what you have learnt in practice and acquire additional key skills.

The Civil Engineering degree programme is only offered as a major subject.

What are the advantages of a minor subject in the Bachelor's degree programme?
  • Flexibility and breadth: you can choose a subject that complements your interests or provides you with further training in a completely new area. This broadens your horizons and creates an interdisciplinary perspective.
  • Excellent career opportunities: With a minor subject, you acquire additional skills that can give you an advantage on the labour market.
  • individual profile building: you develop a personal profile that reflects your interests and strengths.
  • new perspectives: you learn how different disciplines work and think, which helps you to solve complex problems from different angles.

Combine Construction Engineering

You can combine the Construction Engineering major with all subjects. Construction Engineering is not offered as a minor subject.

Special combination rules apply to the teacher training programme for vocational schools. You can find these under the teaching degree programme.

What is the Studium Fundamentale?

It offers you the opportunity to look beyond your own subject and engage with exciting, socially relevant topics. You will learn to think and work in an interdisciplinary way - a skill that is becoming increasingly important in today's world.

Why it is worthwhile for you:

  • You will broaden your horizons by gaining insights into different subject areas.
  • You will develop key skills such as critical thinking and creative problem-solving approaches.
  • You will improve your social and communication skills, which will benefit you in your studies and later in your appointment.
  • You can contribute and develop your personal interests and values.
