Course Details

The major and minor field of study Technology offers a future-oriented, interdisciplinary education in technology and economics and qualifies students to scientifically deal with technical and economic facts and contexts.

They are enabled to solve technical problems in theory and practice in central fields of activity such as development and design, production and manufacturing, energy management, information and communication. Students learn to recognize and evaluate technology in the context of cultural and social events.

In the course of studies, they acquire knowledge necessary for the theoretical analysis and description of machines, devices and processes for material, energy and information processing systems and procedures, as well as skills that enable the practical implementation of theoretical considerations.

In the major field of study, advanced skills in the fields of economics and law are acquired.

Technology in Detail

Structure of the study programme

The bachelor's degree course at the University of Erfurt comprises a major and a minor subject (two-subject bachelor's degree) as well as the fundamental course of study. It aims to impart specialist content and occupational field orientation as well as interdisciplinary skills. The standard period of study is six semesters.

Orientation Phase (First Year)

  • Construction technology (e.g. graphic representation of technical facts)
  • Technical and labour science (e.g. work systems and skilled labour)
  • Information processing systems (e.g. basics of programming, media technology)
  • Energy processing systems (e.g. electrical engineering and electronics)

Qualification Phase (Second/Third Year)

  • Law (e.g. constitutional law, civil law)
  • Economic sciences (e.g. economics, management)
  • Production engineering (e.g. manufacturing processes and materials science)
  • Applied control and regulation technology (e.g. technical computer science)
  • Production engineering and technical innovations

Two-Subject-Bachelor

The major and minor subjects differ in terms of the content and scope of the course. In the major subject a Bachelor thesis is written.

Possible combinations

At the University of Erfurt, you will study a major and a minor subject (two-subject bachelor) in the bachelor's programme. You may have to observe combination rules.

Combination rule:

  • The major in Technology cannot be combined with management, law or economics (Economics, Law and Social Sciences).
  • The minor in Technology cannot be combined with Economics (Economics, Law and Social Sciences).

Study teaching profession

Information about study teaching profession

Teacher training takes place in the Bachelor-Master study system. The degree is equivalent to the 1st state examination. Following the Master's program, you will complete the preparatory service, which concludes with the 2nd state examination.

If you follow a master's degree in teaching, you will acquire the teaching qualification for secondary schools (with technology as your main subject) for the following technical subjects:

The Language Centre (Sprachenzentrum) offers around 140 language courses per semester in 16 modern and ancient (foreign) languages. It supports you in acquiring and deepening your language skills.
