In the Gotha Research Library of the University of Erfurt, the colloquium "Landscapes this and beyond time" organized by PD Dr. Stephan Pabst (Halle/Saale) and Prof. Dr. Jan Röhnert (Braunschweig) will take place on September 21 and 22 to mark the 100th birthday of Hanns Cibulka.

Cibulka (1920-2004), who was director of the Heinrich Heine Library in Gotha from 1953 to 1985, is one of the most idiosyncratic figures in GDR literature. His critical conservatism aroused offence in the GDR, although paradigms such as mission, censorship and dissidence did him only limited justice. At the same time, his subjects (landscape) and his writing forms (letter and diary prose, poems, pastiche, miniature and fragment) are situated in literary historical contexts of the Classic, Romantic and Modern eras, which point beyond the horizon of GDR literature.

Stephan Pabst has been working at the German Institute of German Studies at Martin Luther University Halle (Saale) since 2019 as part of a Heisenberg scholarship funded by the German Research Foundation. He has worked on the literary history of physiognomy, the emergence of modern authorship, European camp literature and contemporary literature. Since 2017 Jan Röhnert has been professor for newer and newest literature in the technical-scientific world at the Institute for German Studies at the TU Braunschweig. His work focuses on poetry and poetics of modernity, avant-garde, post-war and contemporary literature.

Due to the Corona-related hygiene regulations, the number of participants on site is limited to 25 persons. Participation is only possible after timely registration by e-mail to or
