Final Conference: Territoriality and Its Other

From 12–13 January 2023, the Centre for Transcultural Studies/Perthes Collection will host the conference "Territoriality and Its Other", which will celebrate the completion of the project "Cartographies of Africa and Asia (1800-1945). A Digitisation Project for the Perthes Collection Gotha" (KarAfAs). The KarAfAs project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the eheritage programme.

The conference, which will kick off on 12 January with a keynote address by the Israeli researcher Zef Segal, will summarise discussions that have emerged from the digitisation project and also move beyond them: a particular focus of the conference will be the complex interplay between concepts of territoriality and cartographic works, which often calls into question seemingly unambiguous definitions on closer inspection.

The event is open to members of the university - however, due to limited space and the volatile pandemic situation, restrictions on participation may have to be made. To participate in the event, registration via email to claudia.berger@uni-erfurt.de is required.
