Workshop with Dr Matthias Zach as part of the Academic Qualification Programme

Description

This practice-orientated workshop supports doctoral candidates and postdocs in actively shaping the interplay between academic career development and family commitments. You will learn about strategies and reflection tools with which you can approach and manage this complex task in a goal-orientated and sustainable way.

We will discuss the following topics, among others:

  • Understanding how institutional guidelines and cultures shape the interface between work and family life
  • Dealing with subject-specific challenges (e.g. field research, laboratory work, flexible working hours)
  • Reflecting on your own values, needs, expectations and priorities
  • Communicating effectively with partners and other family members
  • Identifying personal competences that support a long-term work-life balance
  • Learning from the experiences and strategies of colleagues and role models

There will also be space for your questions and concerns.

The event is organised in cooperation with the Equal Opportunities and Family Office.
