Lecture series on sustainable development

In the winter semester 2023/24, the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt and the University of Erfurt, together with other cooperation partners, cordially invite all interested parties to attend a public lecture series on the fundamentals of sustainable development. The lectures will take place on Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. in lecture hall 5.E.12 at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, Altonaer Str. 25. Admission is free.

It starts on 17 October. Matthias Gather, Professor of Transport Policy and Spatial Planning at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, will give an introductory talk on "The Problem: Population Development, Resource Consumption, Climate Change". Please see our overview for the entire programme (in German only).

The lecture series deals with ecological challenges such as climate change, the energy transition, land consumption, sustainable forestry or the loss of biodiversity. It also touches on issues such as global conflicts around sustainability, the linking of democracy and education for sustainable development, sustainable business management, the concept of growth, the possibility of regional economic cycles or state financing of the necessary transformation process.

The series of events is organised by Professor Matthias Gather, who is also one of the spokespersons of the Thuringian Sustainability Advisory Council, in cooperation with the KLIMA-N project (KLIMA network for more sustainability in Thuringia) funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.

For students of the University of Erfurt, the lecture series is recognised as a course in the Studium Fundamentale.
