Project Funding

[Translate to English:] Person am Schreibtisch

As part of its research promotion, the University of Erfurt offers its scientists advice and assistance in their applications for third-party funds, the realisation of academic events, and the general profiling of their research projects at the university. Thus, individual projects can be drawn up, hand in and implemented more accurate and swiftly, while the promotion of academic events aims to underline the university’s position in the (inter)national research. Aside from in-house funding based on standardised and in parts with set deadlines application procedures for individual and group projects, the Research and Graduate Services offers strategical consulting and support for all forms of reseach funding applications.

Unfortunately, it is currently not possible to apply for uni-internal funding for project initiatives and co-financing of events.

Matching Fund

The university's matching fund is a complementary financing of projects which are (going to be) originally funded by third parties and got carried out at the University of Erfurt. The funding comes from the university’s budget and its amount gets determined annually by the Presidium. The Matching Fund can be used to provide funds for personnel costs or material expenses, even over a period of years.

As part of some project funding formats from third-party funding sources (such as the BMBF or the VW Foundation), financial participation by the insitutions’s "own resources" is often expected. In most cases, these "own funds" are included in the expense budgeting of the approved project. However, in some cases a prior participation or a complete pre-financing of measures to prepare the project proves to be useful and may also increase the chances of a successful application.

An application for fundings from the matching fund can be made, when the participation by „own funds“ in research projects is either necessary or useful and other formats by the university-internal project funding cannot be used. The decision for allocation is made by the Presidium in accordance with an official application that must be coordinated in advance with the Research and Graduate Service.

For any questions regarding the Matching Fund, please contact the head of the Research and Graduate Services, Dr. Katharina Held.
