Course Details

In the study of Educational Science you acquire

  • basic knowledge of educational science,
  • research methodology skills,
  • job-related action competences.

You will be familiarized with questions, knowledge and working methods of educational science. The course of study enables you to recognise and reflect on pedagogically relevant problems.

After the degree course you will be able to plan, coordinate and evaluate educational processes and their framework conditions in organisations.

Moreover, many graduates of Education Studies work in the following industries:

  • in vocational and operational training,
  • in continuing education and adult education,
  • in the field of children and youth media,
  • in extracurricular educational and training work,
  • in special educational care and counselling, e.g. in institutions for the disabled,
  • in educational and training guidance,
  • in the coordination of educational offers,
  • in child and youth welfare/educational assistance,
  • in public youth (social) work (special needs education if there is a compulsory choice).

Structure of the study programme

The bachelor's degree course at the University of Erfurt comprises a major and a minor subject (two-subject bachelor's degree) as well as the fundamental course of study. It aims to impart specialist content and occupational field orientation as well as interdisciplinary skills. The standard period of study is six semesters.

  • Structure of the educational system and pedagogical fields of action

Qualification Phase (Second/Third Year)

  • Pedagogical field of action: vocational training
  • Pedagogical field of action: children's and youth media
  • Pedagogical field of action: Special education
  • Pedagogical field of action: Social pedagogy
  • Pedagogical field of action: Further and adult education

Two-Subject-Bachelor

The major and minor subjects differ in terms of the content and scope of the course. In the major subject a Bachelor thesis is written.

  • Education Studies can be combined with all fields of study except Education for Special Needs Pedagogy.

The Language Centre (Sprachenzentrum) offers around 140 language courses per semester in 16 modern and ancient (foreign) languages. It supports you in acquiring and deepening your language skills.
