Course Details

Education Science - Management and research in the education system combines in-depth knowledge in educational science with new approaches to market-oriented and sustainable pedagogy. They analyse current social problem areas and reflect on their consequences for educational science activities.

Among other things, they acquire knowledge:

  • in the management of educational processes and structures
  • in the planning, implementation and evaluation of projects

It combines educational theories with empirical methods. You will acquire competences in the areas of leadership, methods and communication and will be able to work in public and private institutions of the extracurricular education and science.

Education Science in Detail

Structure of the study programme

The study program in Education Science - Management and research in the education system - comprises 120 credit points (LP) and is divided into a three-semester study phase (90 LP) and a semester for writing the Master's thesis (30 LP).

It includes the following 8 compulsory modules:

  • Module A: Education science, pedagogy and reforms in the education system
  • Module B: Methods of educational research and evaluation
  • Module C: Fields of Work and Research in Education Science
  • Module D: Education monitoring, management and financing
  • Module E: Personnel development and law in the education system
  • Module F: Current issues in educational science
  • Module G: Professional field module - Internship
  • Module XX: Final module, for writing the master thesis

Admissions qualification

  • a relevant Bachelor's, Master's or Diploma degree with a scope of 60 credit points in Education Sciences, comparable to the Bachelor's minor in Education Sciences at the University of Erfurt, and a final grade of 2.0 or better

or

  • the completion of a non-relevant course of study of at least 6 semesters and with an above-average result (2.0 or better) and proof of two years of relevant professional experience in at least one of the fields of work and research of the Master's programme

Language requirements

At the beginning of the studies:

  • German: Upon application, international applicants must prove German language skills at level B1.
  • English: Reading and listening comprehension at level C1

Until the end of the studies:

  • Knowledge of a foreign language in a language at least at level B1

Language skills of a similar nature in other languages may also be recognised on request. Students whose native language is not German or English may also choose German or English as a foreign language. In these cases, level C1 must be proven in all sub-areas.

Language Center

The Language Centre (Sprachenzentrum) offers around 140 language courses per semester in 16 modern and ancient (foreign) languages. It supports you in acquiring and deepening your language skills.
