Prof. Andreas Goldthau will be panelist at a virtual discussion of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation on February 24, 2022 from 7:00 pm on the topic "Dangerous dependency? Energy Security in Times of Geopolitical Tension".

Whenever the situation in Eastern Europe threatens to escalate due to hostile actions of the Putin regime, the supply of gas and other raw materials to Europe becomes the focus of attention.

  • How do mutual dependencies develop in times of geopolitical tensions?
  • Are there alternatives to Russian gas supplies, for example through cooperation with the third-largest natural gas exporter, the United States, or other energy sources?
  • What role does gas play in the future energy mix and how big is the geopolitical dimension of the energy transition?
  • What is driving energy prices and how can policymakers ensure affordable energy even in these times?

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation will discuss these and other questions with Michael Kruse (member of the German Bundestag), Barbara Lempp (lawyer and managing director of EFET Germany) and Brandt School Professor Andreas Goldthau on March 23, 2022, starting at 7:00 pm. The discussion will be in German.
