"FUM" is intended to support maths teachers who teach other subjects

Over the next two years, the Thuringian Ministry for Economis Affairs, Science and Digital Society – co-financed by the EU – will provide almost 377,000 euros in funding for a new research project by apl. Professor Heike Hahn and Dr Nadine Böhme at the Faculty of Education at the University of Erfurt as part of its RTI programme (Research – Technology – Innovation). The researchers want to find ways to support non-specialist Mathematics teachers in the long term in a skills-oriented manner. The project starts on 1 January 2024.

Under the title "FUM – Long-term Competence-oriented Support for Non-specialist Mathematics Teachers", concrete support materials for lesson design and diagnostics of pupils' learning status in the subject of Mathematics in the double grades 5/6 and 7/8 for secondary schools for non-specialist teachers are to be developed on the basis of extensive needs, target group and task analyses. The project is aimed at teachers who have acquired a teaching qualification for two subjects (first and second state examinations) without Mathematics as a subject, but who teach Mathematics at their schools in these grades.
