Moodle Update: Changeover to 4.1 for the Winter Semester

For the winter semester 2023/24, the Moodle learning platform used at the University of Erfurt will be converted to the new version 4.1.

The new version mainly brings changes to the user interface. This has been fundamentally revised and modernised in Moodle 4.1. Moodle will therefore look a little different; there will be only a few, but mainly useful changes to the materials and activities available: It is expected that the update will also provide further options for the didactic design of the course rooms.

The changeover to Moodle 4.1 will not be a complete reinstallation. Existing courses will remain unchanged. Old courses that were created as regular course rooms before 2020 will be excluded. These are to be removed from the system in the course of the changeover. The University Computer and Media Centre (URMZ) and the eTeach team therefore ask all teachers to delete course rooms that are no longer needed so that the amount of data to be migrated can be reduced and the migration runs as smoothly as possible. Information on how to delete Moodle course rooms but also how to save course content or entire courses can be found in the Moodle room "Uni Erfurt Digital Lehren" (enrolment key: ueDigital).

With a view to the new semester, the changeover means: Courses for the winter semester 2023/24 can probably be created regularly via SISSI from August. They will then be transferred to Moodle 4.1. However, as some design options will change, it may be advisable to wait until the complete changeover to 4.1 before designing the courses. Information sessions on the new Moodle are expected to be offered by the eTeach team on 19 and 29 September from 10 to 11 a.m. (via Webex). The specific dates and further information on the Moodle update will follow.

If you have any questions, please contact the eTeach team at the University of Erfurt.
