"Being Human. Existence in a State of Emergency"

The Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Erfurt invites all interested parties to a discussion event on Thursday, 8 February. Under the title "Mensch sein. Existenz im Ausnahmezustand" (Being Human. Existence in a State of Emergency), anthropologist Carel van Schaik and historian Kai Michel will discuss the topic. The discussion will be moderated by Professor Julia Knop and will begin at 8 p.m. in the "Bildungshaus St. Martin" (Farbengasse 2, Erfurt). Admission is free.

"Mensch sein. Von der Evolution für die Zukunft lernen" (Rowohlt 2023), the latest book by bestselling authors Carel van Schaik and Kai Michel, is a passionate plea for justice and evolutionary enlightenment, a blueprint for our future and an urgently needed compass in times of upheaval, crisis and depression. Of particular interest to religious people is how the authors integrate biblical traditions and religious concepts of meaning into their studies of evolutionary and cultural history. Also in "Das Tagebuch der Menschheit. Was die Bibel über unsere Evolution verrät" (Rowohlt, 2016) and "Die Wahrheit über Eva. Die Erfindung der Ungleichheit von Frauen und Männern" (Rowohlt 2020), they enter into dialogue with religious worlds and cultural influences. These imprints are made comprehensible through multi-perspective awareness. And what you understand, you can also shape. So that humanity has a future.
