Lecture and Discussion: "Denominational Patterns of Spiritual and Sexual Abuse"

The Catholic Forum in Thuringia and the Professorship for Liturgical Studies at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the University of Erfurt are inviting you to a public lecture on Tuesday, 6 February, followed by a discussion on "Konfessionelle Muster des spirituellen und sexuellen Missbrauchs" (Confessional patterns of spiritual and sexual abuse). The speaker is the theologian and church historian Dr Regina Heyder. The event begins at 7 pm in the St Ursula House of Education, Trommsdorffstraße 29, in Erfurt. Admission is free.

One of the insights gained in recent years is that sexual abuse of young people and adults in the religious sphere is often initiated and orchestrated through spiritual abuse. Recent publications show that the strategies of perpetrators follow denominational patterns, because spiritual abuse targets what is sacred to people at their core.

Regina Heyder uses autobiographical accounts and studies from recent years to show the characteristics of abuse in different denominational and spiritual contexts.
