Pia Schneider - Freelance sign language interpreter with social responsibility

Pia Schneider is currently studying at the University of Erfurt (B.A.) and is already intensively involved beyond her studies - especially in the field of sign language interpreting and self-employment. She has been taking part in professional start-up advice since December 2024 and founded her sole proprietorship on 1 July 2025: She works freelance and independently - as a sideline.

Her commitment to barrier-free access and communication for all is particularly important: Pia is now an accredited B.A. sign language interpreter with the Professional Association of Interpreters for Sign Languages and Spoken Languages in Thuringia (BDGL).

With her company, Pia combines academic training, social commitment and practical application - she stands for overcoming language barriers and strengthening the accessibility of information and exchange, especially for hearing-impaired people. Her path shows how academic knowledge can be combined with entrepreneurial drive and social aspirations.

Already during her studies at the University of Erfurt, Pia Schneider discovered Pia Schneider discovered her passion for connecting people through language. For her, interpreting means much more than translating - it is a contribution to genuine participation and inclusion. She is highly committed to making communication accessible for everyone - especially for people with hearing impairments.

This motivation prompted Pia to take the plunge and become self-employed. Since 1 July 2025, she has been working as an accredited sign language interpreter (BDGL), putting her idea of putting her professional knowledge and values into practice.

Her path shows: Foundation can also arise from a social concern. Pia wants to use her work to raise awareness of barrier-free communication and encourage other students to pursue their own ideas with impact - whether as a full-time or part-time job.

She has clear goals for the future: She wants to further expand her work, specialise in her field and collaborate with educational institutions, cultural projects and social initiatives. In the long term, she wants to help ensure that inclusion and sign language are integrated into everyday life, studies and appointments as a matter of course.
