"Attraction, Repulsion, Indifference – A Culture-Comparative Analysis of World Relations"

It is another milestone for the University of Erfurt: the Science Council has given the "green light" for the construction of a new research building on campus in 2016. The new building is to be constructed between the Erfurt University Library and the Centre for Communication and Information (KIZ). However, the approval of such a project for a university in the humanities like the University of Erfurt is anything but a matter of course: in the past, it was more likely that clusters of excellence or universities with large-scale natural science projects would score points here. And there is another special feature: the university will realise the new building itself – the first time ever that a Thuringian university is allowed to carry out a so-called "major building project" on its own.
What happens in the new research building?
In future, the building will house the Max-Weber-Kolleg, among others. This will enable the implementation of a long-term research programme on the topic of "Attraction, Repulsion, Indifference - a comparative cultural analysis of world relations". In addition, the Willy Brandt School of Public Policy, the Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour, the Theological Research Centre and possibly other research groups will be housed in this new building.

Housewarming for the "World Relations" research building
The University of Erfurt invites all university members to a first visit to the new research building "World Relations" on Monday, 10 July 2023, from 12 noon. On this day, they will have the opportunity to view the new building during guided tours at 12.30 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. and to talk to the research groups and facilities that will be housed there in the future. These will then invite you to further events of their own in the course of the week - including the Max-Weber-Kolleg's summer party and the awarding of doctoral hats to doctoral candidates on 10 July; the farewell ceremony for the students of the Brandt School on 13 July and the Science Aperitivo of the Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour on 11 July. On Thursday, 13 July, at 1 p.m., there will be another opportunity to take part in a guided tour of the building. Further information will follow.
Official inauguration of the research building
The official inauguration of the research building with guests from politics, business, science and society will take place on 18 October 2023 from 12 noon. A panel discussion on the topic of "World Relations" is also planned for that day. In the evening, the "Erfurt Science Slam" will take place in the Centre for Communication and Information (KIZ), which this time will also focus on "world relations". Further information will follow.
More news (in German only)
The new building is a wonderful opportunity for us to move even closer together on campus. At the same time, we can offer scientists state-of-the-art rooms to work in, so that the planned new building will not only be an enrichment for the campus, but also an important step in the tough competition for resources and brains.
