How is our understanding of "nomadism" changing – historically and in the present? In the recently published anthology Nomad Properties edited by Anna Möllers, Dirk Schuck and Bernhard Kleeberg, examines this question from an interdisciplinary perspective. The volume brings together contributions from international researchers and examines the figure of the nomad - from historical forms of mobility and political discourses of the 18th and 19th centuries to modern manifestations such as migration, scientific mobility and transnational labour relations. Nomadism is understood not only as a cultural phenomenon, but also as a politically charged category that is reflected and negotiated in (neo-)liberal narratives of sedentarisation, productivity and property.

The volume was published in English at the beginning of 2026 and opens up new approaches for readers from history, anthropology, sociology and beyond.

The book is available as a print edition or free of charge as open access.
