As prominent as the virtue teachings of Thomas Aquinas and Meister Eckhart were in their time, they are given little consideration today. This is regrettable, since their reflections are extremely informative for current debates on virtue ethics. The volume "On Virtue", edited by Dr Kathi Beier and private lecturer Dr Martina Roesner – both members of the Meister Eckhart Research Centre of the Max-Weber-Kolleg at the University of Erfurt – presents central passages from the works of Thomas Aquinas and Meister Eckhart, each in the original language as well as new or adapted German translations. In addition, relevant researchers discuss the two quite different approaches, compare them with each other, and place them in the current academic discourse. The book is intended for anyone interested in the ethics of Thomas Aquinas, Eckhart's ethics, or virtue ethics in general.
"On Virtue" is part of the series Interpretations and Sources (volume 6), in which important texts of Western intellectual history are published together with interpretive essays that open up important aspects of the respective text in the context of contemporary scholarly debate.
