New Research Project on Health Communication Starts in April

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) is funding a research project on the visualisation of nutritional recommendations with around 400,000 euros over the next two years. The joint project entitled "FBDGVisual – development and evaluation of visualisations of food-related nutritional recommendations" is being carried out by the Institute for Planetary Health Behaviour (IPB) at the University of Erfurt together with the Institute of Nutrition and Food Economics Kiel (ife). It starts on 1 April 2024.

The aim of the research work will be to examine existing visualisations for food-based dietary guidelines (FBDG) based on specific reception criteria for different target groups. Based on qualitative studies, the research team will use creative techniques to identify the challenges for the target groups (e.g. children, adults, senior citizens) and develop ideas for suitable forms of visualisation. Quantitative studies will then be used to review these measures and adapt them where necessary. The researchers will then transfer the optimised visualisations into analogue and digital measures and test them.

The research project at the University of Erfurt is led by Dr des. Sabine Best from the Professorship of Health Communication and supported by Leonie Otten, M.A.
