Current transformation processes of the Catholic Church in Europe and worldwide are examined, which are changing the social presence, but also the self-image of the Church. How are these processes to be interpreted, what new forms of Christianity are emerging? To this end, socio-institutional, religious, political and pastoral developments and changes in church administration will be examined in doctoral and postdoctoral projects as well as in cooperative international research.

1.2 million euros have been made available for the entire project, 400,000 of which for the University of Erfurt.
