New database "Gender: Identity and Social Change"

Within the framework of a national licence, a new database "Gender: Identity and Social Change" is now freely available at the University of Erfurt.

It contains sources from the 19th and 20th centuries on the history of suffragettes and the struggle for women's suffrage, on the history of feminism and, in addition, on various topics of gender history. The database focuses on sources from the Anglo-American cultural area, and is based on the collections of nine libraries, including the Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America. The collections represent the multifaceted interdisciplinary field of gender history and allow for a scholarly investigation of developments in gender roles and relationships.

The database includes records of organizations and interest groups, guidebook literature as well as personal diaries and correspondence that illuminate both key historical figures and pioneers of gender history and the lives of ordinary men and women. There is also a rich selection of visual material, including photographs, illustrations, posters and objects.
