Reorganisation of the university research institutions in Gotha

In its last meeting of 2020, the Academic Senate of the University of Erfurt approved a reorganisation of Gotha's research institutions: The two departments that previously existed under the umbrella of the Gotha Research Centre will become institutionally independent and will each receive their own statutes.

The existing Gotha Research Centre under the direction of Prof. Dr. Martin Mulsow will now focus on the "History of Culture and Knowledge of the Modern Era in an Interdisciplinary Perspective" on the basis of the ducal collections and will further intensify the already close cooperation with the Gotha Research Library. Among other things, a joint focus on numismatics as one of the leading disciplines of early modern scholarship is to be formed and networked even more strongly internationally.

On 1 January 2021, the Research College for Transcultural Studies / Perthes Collection (FKTS/SP) will begin its work as a central academic institution of the University of Erfurt. The college is intended to link the Perthes Collection, which is curated by the research library, more closely with the academic activities on the Erfurt campus and to profile the collection as a university collection for the national and international scientific community. The aim is to intensify research on the Perthes Collection and increase its visibility as a national cultural asset that deserves great attention. Starting from the Perthes Collection, the researchers also want to include other (Gotha) collections from the late 18th to the 20th century in their work.
