University of Erfurt in the final round of the "Prize for Excellence in Teacher Training"

The University of Erfurt has reached the final round with its application for the "Preis für Exzellenz in der Lehrkräftebildung" (Prize for Excellence in Teacher Education), which is awarded by the TÜV SÜD Foundation and the "Stifterverband". We have now been invited to flesh out our outline and present it to the jury at a public meeting on 20 November at the Quadriga Forum in Berlin.

The jury will then decide on the winners – including a public vote – also on this day. In addition to the University of Erfurt, the universities of Hanover, Münster, Potsdam and Tübingen as well as the Alliance for Teacher Education Schleswig-Holstein are in the final selection. "We can be very proud of this wonderful interim success," says Professor Julia Knop, Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of Erfurt. "With this nomination, the jury not only recognises the forward-looking content of our teacher training, but also acknowledges the high quality of our science-based ideas and concepts. Regardless of who is ultimately chosen, we would like to thank all colleagues involved in the application for their commitment and support and, of course, keep our fingers crossed for the presentation on 20 November."

The "Prize for Excellence in Teacher Training"

... is awarded annually in a competitive process to a university or university college of teacher education that takes into account the specific requirements of teacher training, particularly in its (organisational) structures, its management processes and its use of resources, and thus creates essential conditions for excellence in all university performance dimensions – teaching, research and transfer.

The aim of the award is to

  • to strengthen universities in their responsibility for high-quality, science-based teacher training and
  • to increase the visibility of teacher training in academia.

The prize money of 100,000 euros is earmarked for the further development of teacher training.
