This certified course contains recommendations on how lay people can assess the situation in a mental health crisis, recognise signs of mental illness, assist affected persons and refer them for professional help. The content is based on international guidelines and scientific principles.
Organisational information:
The course comprises a total of twelve hours and will take place on 15 and 16 July 2025, 9 am - 4 pm.(Room to be announced). The course will conclude with a certificate for which a short theoretical examination (multiple-choice test) must be passed. The number of participants is limited to 20.

Requirements for participation in the MHFA course for students:
- Letter of motivation (approx. 1 page)
- be enrolled for at least 1 year at the University of Erfurt
- Contribution
- Support of the helpline (participation in office hours according to own possibilities)
- Participation in working group meetings with UGM (once a month, digital or face-to-face)
- Be available for other students (be visible on the website)
