The degree programme is offered as part of the dual teacher training for secondary schools. In the dual degree programme in English and American Studies, you will focus on the language, literature and culture of English-speaking countries. You will acquire academic foundations, practical skills, intercultural competences and will also be introduced to the didactics of teaching English. The majority of courses are taught in English.
The subject matter and objectives of the school practice are defined in the corresponding modules and are carried out in cooperation with the practice partner (training school). The university accompanies the qualification process of the students and supports them in reflecting on their experiences.

The dual Bachelor of Education secondary schools programme in English and American Studies qualifies you for the teaching profession of secondary schools and enables you to transfer to the dual Master of Education secondary schools programme in English.
In the dual teaching profession secondary schools programme, you will already be working at your training school in Thuringia during your studies. Depending on your choice of second subject, you will teach another subject in addition to English (Mathematics, German, Technology/Crafts or Sport).
The dual degree programme in English and American Studies extends over four academic years (eight semesters). At the time of matriculation and registration, it is determined whether the subject English and American Studies will be studied as subject 1 or subject 2. If it is chosen as subject 1, the first practical school modules begin as early as the third semester in close coordination with the training school.

For the dual Bachelor of Education programme in English and American Studies, you need a valid university entrance qualification, for example the general higher education entrance qualification or a comparable qualification.

Dual students receive a study contract from the Free State of Thuringia with a monthly payment and are bound to the Free State for the duration of their studies and, including the preparatory service (legal clerkship), for a further five years. The study contract is a prerequisite for matriculation and registration and becomes effective when you fulfil the matriculation and registration requirements. These are checked by the university.
A very good knowledge of English is a prerequisite for success on the programme.
