Update Moodle & course clean-up

The University Computer and Media Center (URMZ) of the University of Erfurt informs that on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, the current Moodle installation will be updated to LTS version 4.5 by the IT Centre of the Thuringian Universities. As a result, Moodle will be unavailable or only available to a limited extent on that day and, due to functional testing, also on 24 September.

Please also note that all courses from courses before the winter semester 2022 will no longer be available after the update! The courses are already inactive and can only be viewed by the lecturers. These courses can be recognised in the dashboard by the [EOL] in the course title. The content can be transferred to a newly created course up to and including 22 September 2025 and thus saved or reused.

Information on saving and importing Moodle courses can be found in the course room Uni Erfurt Digital Lehren:

More information about the update:

  • The topic format "TabTopics" will no longer be available.
  • The "Planner" will also no longer be available. However, a comparable functionality will be provided via the new "Terminplaner" activity.

The eTeach team will offer a digital information event on the new functions in Moodle 4.5 on Thursday 2 October from 3 to 4 pm. Details can be found in our event calendar.
